Mixing Styles…

The cool thing is that each of us has a different idea of what we like or don’t like (if you work in a gallery you will quickly see how there can be one painting, and the comments throughout the day are so varied “love it”/”hate it”, “don’t get it”/”it speaks to me”, “I LOVE the color palette”/”I hate those colors” – it is so interesting!) – which is a GOOD thing. Our house was very classic in design. Some antiques, some new pieces, but something was lacking. We have since fallen in love with the Mid-Century Modern furniture. The classic pieces are so amazing! There is a reason you see them in museums! Those pieces are EXACTLY what our rooms needed!

I love when people mix styles. A little of this, a little of that – it adds interest. If everything is formal or modern, etc. I think you miss the highlights. In this setting above, we have an antique pine armoire, a mahogany chest, a stunning marble coffee table (Plinth), a Grasshopper Floor Lamp (lines are STUNNING), Eames Wire Base Low Table (love this simple table!) and the pièce de résistance… the LCW chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller® – it’s technical name is the “Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair”. Plywood. Yes. With a Santos Palisander finish that is so beautiful and evokes such style. It’s a treasure! Let me tell you, there is no more comfortable chair! It’s remarkable!

We love art, and have a lot of it, pictured above on the left from top to bottom: Ken DeWaard, Elizabeth Pollie, Darrell Hill. On the windowsill: Robert Abele, on the right (top to bottom): Don Stone, Michael Zarowsky and Betty Anglin Smith.

✍Until next time…
