Scenic doesn’t even begin to describe Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, located in Edisto, South Carolina. If I were an animal of any kind, I would want to live in this oasis. Over 46,000 acres and it’s like time has stood still. The beauty is breathtaking and the beach (which we skipped this trip) is jaw dropping.
Botany Bay is approximately a 45 minute car trip from Charleston, SC. A quick trip to feel like you’ve entered another realm – time slows, the air is fresher, everything is so green and natural. On a hot day (heat index >100℉) it’s cool under the thick canopy of shade from so many trees. Hard to imagine, because once you leave Botany Bay and pull out onto the main highway you instantly remember how hot it is.
If you ever get a chance to visit, it’s a “must see”. Note: This is a place to appreciate nature and its beauty. There are no restrooms, no gift shops, no food or beverages. You pull up, sign in, drive through (you can park in a small lot when the beach is open), and exit – taking everything that you brought with you out. #leavenotrace
If you visit the beach, you cannot take the shells. Leave everything how it is. You won’t believe how beautiful an untouched beach is.
Until next time…
